BUSINESS TRAITS OF THE ZERO PERSONALITY

By Ayo Emakhiomhe.
So far, we have defined the zero personality and started out listing the business traits of this personality.
We have been able to outline and discuss five of them namely:
1. Wants immediate gratification. An example of the is the story of the Prodigal son as related in the Holy bible (the book of Luke chapter 15 verses 11 to 21)
2. Cannot stand competition. An example here is the story of Microsoft in their antitrust case for which Bill gates almost lost his company if he had not surrendered leadership. And note that by diffusing leadership he ceased being the all in all and humbled himself and ceased being a zero due to the anti competitive personality he had initially displayed.
3. Lacks integrity. Any person that cannot give his/her word and stand by it displays this trait, especially when factors that would have prevented the fulfillment of such a promise are within the person’s control.
4. Zero risk appetite.  This happens to us at one time or the other in our lives. Everyone is a coward, the hero is the one that now takes a step, another and every other step necessary to reach, face and conquer his/her fear. Fear is an imagination of the mind that we bring to reality and exists for as long as we allow it to.
5. Very myopic/lacks planning. A good example here is some of the governments and politicians we have had in Nigeria.

By the next post we will be looking at the social traits of the zero personality.

BUSINESS TRAITS OF THE ZERO PERSONALITY (CONT'D)

we continue with our discourse on the business personality of the Zero person. this has been our discourse in the last 3 posts.
You can always read previous posts from our archives. All contributions are welcomed. happy reading.

Our talk today will be on the MYOPIC business outlook of the zero personality
A zero lives life as if it would end by end of day today. That is, if you ask a zero to plan 5years, 10years, or worse still, 20 years down the line, it’s a journey in futility.
A zero’s business plan is at most short term; a week, a day, a month, a few months tops. But the true successful business person can tell you where his/her business will be in the next five years time all things being equal or alternative plans in case things do not go according to plan, all in a bid to achieve success in five years or ten years time or more.

we continue by next post.

BUSINESS TRAITS OF THE ZERO PERSONALITY (CON'TD)

By Emakhiomhe Ayo

    Zero risk appetite.

If you tell a zero personality that there is a risk involved in any action, that zero would not be involved in such an action.
But what guarantee do we have that when we sleep at night or when we doze off during the day we will wake up again, it is a risk we take to sleep as basic as it is, therefore it is by faith that we sleep to wake up, therefore we should act by such faith especially if we have good and reliable information on such action.
A zero would not only on its own take no risks, it would not encourage all those around it to take any risk in any form and could even go to the extent of creating an environment of fear and lack of initiative.

We should always remember the business rule that says the more the risk, the more the returns. We should learn to take calculated risks.
A child takes a risk by trying to walk/crawl but without taking that risk, the child will not grow.
When I say risk here I mean calculated/informed risk. I am not saying that you should take a risk and go rob a bank or jump off a cliff. What I am saying is if you have a million dollar business plan in your hand for example, your bank comes across it, studies it and decides that its good enough to put their money in it, you say no because bank credit is too risky, but you have no job or means of livelihood, you say “I will survive, I will not have a bank watch my business”.
This project might have been packaged in such a way that the bank takes all the risk and you lose nothing but your time if you go into it and gain experience if it crashes, but, with the risk factor of your bank financing, you totally back out until someone else comes along with same idea and is financed by same bank and starts flowing with money that would have been yours and you get pained.

BUSINESS TRAITS OF THE ZERO PERSONALITY II

The Zero personality Lacks integrity.
Integrity is being true to oneself at all times. More like doing the right thing even when no one is there to see you do it or if no one will ever know if what you did was right or not and you still go ahead and do the right thing.
A zero would tell you what it feels you want to hear even when it knows that that information is incorrect or distorted or that such information could destroy you probably because you cannot manage such information.
An example was a financial institution I used to work with a little while back. The information I gathered was that sometime back then the managing director did not realize that the employees were not satisfied with their salaries; the story then was that whenever he asked his management staff if the pay was good they would tell him that it was the best in the industry and he did not bother to double check. This went on for a while until staff turnover was hitting the roof and key management staffs were now resigning. But the bubble burst when he confronted a management staff who had just resigned and in all he said, it was like ‘why have you decided to stab me in the back after all the great things I have done for you’ This employee now could not control herself and just said all sorts to him in a rage to the point of how sickening his company’s pay was and this was at a management meeting. This was when he went to double check and found out that indeed his pay compared to the industry average was appalling and took immediate steps to rectify and pacify the situation which led to a good drop in staff turnover and other management staff not moving on.
In the story above, one would say that he should swipe the management for lying to him but we need to look at both sides of the coin before deciding on this because like many CEO’s, are you sure he encourages people telling him the true situation of things?
Some CEO’S actually do not know when they start doing this especially when success starts becoming their middle name, but they should watch it because this is a behavior of a zero personality which as we just saw would have led to the demise of a great company.
But coming back to our topic, because of the zeros that formed the management of that company, they did not tell the CEO the truth with respect to the poor salary for which reason the company had lost key staff and would have gone under.
This brings to fore a key question - As a CEO, what kind of managers do you have? What kind of a leader are you?

COMFORT ZONE SYNDROME
There was once a king, who received a gift of two magnificent falcons from Arabia. They were peregrine falcons, the most beautiful birds he had ever seen. He gave the precious birds to his head falconer to be trained. Months passed and one day the head falconer informed the king that though one of the falcons was flying majestically, soaring high in the sky, the other bird had not moved from its branch, since the day it had arrived. The king summoned healers from all the land to tend to the falcon, but no one could make the bird fly. He presented the task to a member of his court, but the next day, the king saw through the palace window that the bird had still not moved from its perch. Having tried everything else, the king thought to himself, "May be I need someone more familiar with the countryside to understand the nature of this problem." So he cried out to his court, "Go and get a farmer." In the morning, the king was thrilled to see the falcon soaring high above the palace gardens. He said to his court, "Bring me the doer of this miracle." The court quickly located the farmer, who came and stood before the king. The king asked him, "How did you make the falcon fly?" With his head bowed, the farmer said to the king, " It was very easy, your highness. I simply cut the branch, where the bird was sitting."

Nugget

We were all made to fly but we need to realize this incredible potential as human beings. We cannot afford to sit on our branches, clinging to the familiar things in our lives. The possibilities of this world are endless, but for most people, these remain undiscovered. When we conform to the familiar, the comfortable and the mundane, we miss out on God's best for our lives and settle for mediocrity, instead of an exciting, thrilling and fulfilling life. This week, we must learn to destroy the branch of fear and the other things we cling to so as to free ourselves to the glory of flight. The best days are still ahead of you. God always has His best in mind for you only if you can acknowledge and take advantage of them through the principle of recognition. Your gifts will surely make room for you as you cash in on your windows of opportunities in 2011!

BUSINESS TRAITS OF THE ZERO PERSONALITY II

By Ayo Emakhiomhe

Cannot stand competition.
The need for immediate gratification makes it difficult for the zero to stand competition. We might be smiling reading this because one of the rules we were thought was to crush the competition. But what we should realize is that without competition our creative best will not come out, also without competition our customers will not see our strengths (and our weaknesses), every minus for the competition should be a plus for us.
Without competition there would not be a need for advertising, research and development or even new products/services.
But a salient issue here is that a zero sees even suggestions from subordinates and positive comments by superiors as competition and always finds ways to crush such which now leads to counterproductive behavior. Anyone that cannot take suggestions on proper organizational flow or takes positive comments from superiors as affronts is only counting time before disaster occurs.

THE ZERO

BY AYO EMAKHIOMHE
THE ZERO FACTOR
An entity is a being, something of some value, no matter the kind of value attached to it and such a being is recognized as existing in space or time. Anyone that does not meet this criterion is now a NON-ENTITY (a negation of entity).

ZERO ( 0 )
The zero is known as a person of no value. A non-entity.
A zero is a person who brings you to zero anytime you interact with him/her
No matter how high up you are, be you a multiplier or a one, once a zero comes into your life, you fall in value.
At one point in our life or the other, or in one area in our life or the other, we would have been zeros, but the question is, after careful analysis, will we remain zeros or will we work towards becoming multipliers.
There are various character types or traits all exhibited by each temperament type to certain degrees as influenced by the mindset of this personality type.

BUSINESS TRAITS.
1. Wants immediate gratification
A zero is a very impatient person. He/she lives more in his/her ‘id’ personality; in psycho-analysis, a person has 3 personalities; the id, the ego and the superego.
The id is the baby personality, the one that does not know how to express itself, that is very impatient, very demanding and would cry and shout until it gets what it wants, the id would selfishly do what it takes to get what it wants no matter how unfavorably it would be for other parties involved, and if it does not get it, will resort to violence or destruction as long as that would get the required result.
The ego is the maturity/maturing personality seen more in people the age 18 – 25. The Ego personality considers its environmental influences in making decisions, like an eighteen year old on a first date.

The superego is the matured personality, the one that takes the perfect decisions, has good control over the environment it stays in, lives more to balance its environment by being ready to give up to go up, knows when to be demanding, knows when to pick a hard stand and knows when to go soft, but in all this, it is very patient and strategic, looks at and sees the big picture for all situations. A lot of us do not get to this last personality type in our lifetimes.

A zero personality would go into business to gain only immediate or instant and crazy profits and even if it means wrecking the business of the client to achieve this, not bothering about keeping the client around to enjoy long term benefits of long term business relationships. This trait makes the zero a very terrible negotiator, and a good monopolist.

THE 3 TRAITS OF ANY FACTOR

BY AYO EMAKHIOMHE
No matter how we rate ourselves, one thing is sure, we can be better. This blog is for everyone, even if you feel you are a multiplier, a one or a zero. This is because in various spheres of our lives we have elements of 1, 0 or multipliers. So use this blog to find out where in your life you have shortcomings and let us together improve on it.
To guide us, I have divided each numeral personality into three broad areas we can call traits;
- Business traits
- Social traits, and
- Spiritual traits.
Do note that this is not all encompassing but would go a long way in creating a perspective for you and putting you on the path to the top of any area and every area of your life.
Also, this is not the work of a psychologist, but simply the inspiration from experience and studies of a business consultant.
The business trait represents the kind of person you are as a businessman/businesswoman or an employee/employer. How do you behave when you have the most popular jewel in your hand - money? Or how would you go about getting this revered jewel.
It is common fact that everyone has an innate desire for association which is expressed differently by different people. The social trait covers this aspect of our life irrespective of our temperaments.
According to a research, one of the reasons given by most of the worlds richest and influential men for their level of success is their reverence to a supreme being that is why the spiritual trait comes in.
Let’s start with the least of these numbers, the zero.
this will be continued by next post.
cheers.
